A UK biotech and healthcare company, established in 2017, is developing a range of products, from a vaccine platform, osteochondral defect repair implant, and bone scaffold implants. It has recently received funding to develop a “first responder” wound care device and is looking for a technology partner in the SMP sector to evaluate and trial SMP foam, as the company is looking to utilise new and emerging technologies wherever possible. The SMP product will need to be GMP manufactured, suitable for both Ethylene Oxide (ETO) and Gamma sterilisation, and have undergone biological testing (cytotoxicity, sensitization, irritation and Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) fingerprint). As this is a time critical project, the company will need immediate access to materials from the selected partner. The material will be used in lab-based trials and if it meets the needs, it will be used in a further animal trial. This data will be made available to the partner company. There is also the expectation that there will be publications of these lab-based and animal trials, providing further benefits and publicity for the partner company. As there are plans for several products to be based on the device, there is the potential for the partner’s product to be used in several devices. The device is in development, and this is a 15-month project (13 months remaining), culminating in an animal trial. The company is looking for an SMP that is market ready and available for immediate integration into the present research program, including initial lab-based trials. The technology partner should have the capability to make adjustments to the SMP foam should the trials identify areas of improvement that would benefit the device. The company will make no claim to any IP on the SMP but will need initial indicative pricing per cut and shaped units and assurance of surety of supply, as the SMP will form part of a larger and more complex device. The company is preparing a patent application on the device and design, but the patent application has not been submitted yet.
